The Canonical Name: Ren Amamiya
The most recognized canon name for the Persona 5 protagonist is Ren Amamiya, which was solidified through the official anime adaptation and rhythm spin-off games. This specific name carries symbolic Japanese kanji associated with lotus, rain, and palace to reflect his narrative journey. Atlus has since reinforced Ren Amamiya as his default system name across modern re-releases, tactical spin-offs, and mobile entries.
The Manga Adaptation Name: Akira Kurusu
Before the anime adaptation established his widely accepted name, readers first encountered the protagonist in the official manga adaptation under the name Akira Kurusu. The name carries a different thematic meaning compared to his anime moniker.
